Happy Monday, friends! I’m furiously typing this as Henry naps – getting blog posts done with a toddler roaming the house just isn’t quite possible, so I’m hoping to get it finished before he wakes up. ;)
The other day I showed some “before” photos of one of our upstairs bedrooms [here]. That one will be our “master” bedroom. Today I’m going to share with you the before photos of what will soon (hopefully) be Henry’s room!
This room was just a room where we put a bunch of stuff that didn’t have a place in the lower level of our home. i.e. the “miscellaneous-junk-we-should-probably-get-rid-of-because-we-haven’t-used-it-in-a-year-and-a-half” stuff. We cleared most of that out so we could paint the room, and I decided to snap a few photos so you could see it in its former state.
Don’t lie, everyone has a room in their home that they use to store stuff that they don’t have a place for. Even if people don’t want to admit it, they definitely do. My friend used her loft as a place to store anything from Christmas decorations to clothes that no longer fit, and she’s only just done something about it. She told me that she had looked into something similar to these Cardiff lofts services to see if she could renovate this room into a bedroom or an office. At least that way, the room will actually have more of a purpose. So, we decided to follow her lead and cleared out all of the junk in this room to start painting.
Also, I mentioned over on Instagram that we were considering replacing the carpet upstairs. We ripped up carpet everywhere else in the house because it was really old and disgusting, but the carpet in the bedrooms upstairs was actually in pretty good shape, just a little dirty. So we left it for the time being. Brandon and I brought home about 15 carpet samples the other day, and after carefully weeding out the ones we didn’t like over the course of a week, we had it narrowed down to our favorite one. Well, I carried that sample up to the upstairs bedroom and quickly realized that it was essentially the same.exact.color. I’ve even found a selection of laminate flooring online as I thought that might be a better option than carpet!
Obviously color wasn’t the only thing we were concerned about with keeping someone else’s old carpet (germs, anyone?!) but as I started looking closer, I realized that the carpet was actually in good shape. It just needed a good cleaning. So…long story short, we’ve decided to just have those carpets professionally cleaned and sanitized and we are going to put that carpet-money toward the horrific upstairs bathroom instead. Maybe someday we’ll replace the carpet but for now I feel good about our decision.
OK enough of me blabbing, here are the pictures!
Remember when I said we hadn’t done a THING to the upstairs? Case in point: I can’t believe I didn’t rip down those curtains immediately after we moved in. But seriously, we essentially never went upstairs so I didn’t see them much!
Notice how there’s some weird greenish paint on the ceiling? I guess we’ll have to re-paint the whole ceiling too!
That wood bar is our stair rail – please disregard. ;)
The other bedroom had one of these “built in” desks too – they’re exact same size, shape, and layout! Those desks actually turned out to be doors upon further inspection. The previous owners were quite creative. ;)
Henry’s closet is actually bigger than ours but I’m OK with that – I can hide toys in there, right?! Also, the doors are in desperate need of painting and I may do something a little more exciting with them, but we will see.
The bedroom door (on the left) needs to just be replaced. It’s full of holes – I think maybe the previous owners hung stuff on it…or threw darts at it. Either way, it’s pretty bad.
A close up of that door/desk and the gross carpet.
We took that shelf down to paint and won’t be putting it back up.
Nice light switch huh? That’s already been removed too! Remember the Charlie Brown light switch in the first bedroom?
There’s a view down the hall into the first bedroom (with a sneak peek of new paint!). The floor in the hall is mid-sanding and a big mess right now but we’ll get there! So.many.projects!
I had a look at a bedroom furniture sale last week as we’ve started to see the finish line, but i still haven’t chosen anything because we have chosen the second colour of paint yet, haha!
