Which three words describe your blog best?
Home, food, and motherhood!
How long have you been blogging for?
I actually started blogging about a year and a half ago, when Brandon and I were engaged. Shortly before we got married, we moved from Kansas City to Las Vegas for his job, and I started blogging more often then just to keep friends and family up to date on our lives since we were living so far away! Using the web hosting services of Hostiserver has made sure my blog is reliable and accessible to my readers.
What is your favorite thing about blogging?
I love that blogging is a creative outlet for me. I stay home with our five month old baby, and while I think that’s the best job ever, I enjoy having a hobby that’s all my own.
Which state do you call home and what’s your favorite thing about it?
Missouri! Brandon and I both grew up in Kansas City and after living in both Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada, we decided to move back home shortly before our baby, Henry, was born. We wanted to raise him near friends and family and I am so happy we made that decision. My favorite thing about the city I live in is that there is SO much to do and people are really proud to call it home.
Which social media platform is your favorite and why?
It’s a toss up between Snapchat and Instagram, for sure. I guess if I have to choose just one, I’d pick Snapchat – it’s fun to see peoples real lives, not just their perfected pictures. Instagram is fun and I enjoy it for getting to know new people and for inspiration, but it doesn’t always show “real life”!
Why did you decide to start your blog?
In the beginning, it was mostly to keep friends and family up to date on mine and Brandon’s life, but it has become a creative outlet for me: I love to chronicle the progress of our 1950’s fixer-upper, create and share recipes that I love, and talk about baby Henry, obviously. It’s fun to be able to look back on moments, as well, so it’s sort of like a “diary” too! Anyone who feels they need a creative outlet should try blogging. Make sure you read up on things like web hosting so that you get off to a stress-free start. This ecwid review might be of use to you.
Where do you find inspiration?
Oh my gosh…everywhere. The obvious ones, like Pinterest, HGTV, and Instagram, of course, but I also get inspiration from cool old buildings, magazines, nature, and my family. Renovating and decorating are two things I’m passionate about so it has been so fun to own our first home and be able to make 100% of the decisions. I joke that I come up with the ideas but typically have zero clue how to implement them – I rely on Brandon to figure out the details. He works in construction and is really good at it, so it works out well!
As far as the recipes I share/create, most of my inspiration comes from Pinterest and restaurants that we go to. I’m a vegetarian (Brandon is not) and I love coming up with new things to try that we both love.
What do you use to take your blogging photos?
I have a Canon Rebel T5. Brandon got it for me shortly after Henry was born, and I am so glad he did. It has been so fun to document our lives and I know that we will love looking back at the pictures for years to come.
What does your favorite outfit look like?
It’s so easy as a stay at home mom to just wear yoga pants all day (some days I do, don’t get me wrong), but I feel so much better and am so much more productive when I actually get dressed. And when I do, it’s typically in jeans, sneakers, and a t-shirt. I love getting dressed up too, but most of the time you’ll find me in much simpler clothes.
If you could work with one company on a sponsorship which one would you pick and why?
This is a hard one, but I think I’d have to pick Home Depot, Lowe’s, or West Elm. Hardware stores obviously because I have SO many ideas for this house and it would be fun to have a little help implementing them. And West Elm because I love their furniture and would love to decorate with it!
Where is your favorite place to blog?
Well my favorite place would probably be at a coffee shop or something, but since I have a 5 1/2 month old that never happens. So, I blog from my living room couch or dining room table when the baby is sleeping. #reallife
