Shopping for a new backpack was always one of my most favorite things about the back-to-school season. I didn’t get a new one every single year (nor do my own kids), which honestly makes it feel like an even bigger deal. It’s SO exciting to go into the new school year with a fresh new backpack!
I’ve rounded up several different backpacks for back to school below. There are options for younger and older kids (and plenty more on the adidas website if you’re not finding one you love).
I’ve also included some options I’d use during the back-to-school season – all year long, really – as a busy mom of three. A backpack is always handy, especially when you’re toting things around on a regular basis.
Backpacks for back to school:

A great backpack, in my opinion, has wide, adjustable straps so they’re comfy enough for carrying even when the backpack gets heavy. I also love pockets – some zippered, some not. Typically, the older my kids get the more pockets I look for in a backpack. For when they’re younger, we favor a simpler one (less places to lose little items!). I also think that side pockets for water bottles are handy when they start carrying a water bottle!
A wipeable/washable backpack is also a must. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve washed my kids backpacks. They get so dirty sitting on the floor, having lunch spilled on the, etc. Always good to have a fresh, clean backpack for carrying back and forth to school.
And last but most CERTAINLY not least – it’s got to be cute (or cool, if you’re my 9 year old son!). Who wants a boring backpack?!
I love all of the options above. So many fun options! My kids are 3, 7, and 9, and they each have their favorite on this list. I also have several favorite backpacks on the site – love them for traveling, the zoo, going to my kids sports games and dance, and just toting all of our stuff around everyday. With three kids, we always have a lot of things to carry around!
I think this backpack would be my top choice – a great amount of pockets, wipeable, wide shoulder straps, durable, and ample storage space. It comes in a ton of great colors, too, like violet, white, and teal! Love the multiple zippered compartments, too. Perfect for staying organized!
This flap backpack is a really fun, unique option too if you want something more exciting. Love the color (it’s giving vintage!), and it has a spacious, zippered main compartment with zippered flap for extra security. It has a zippered front compartment and wide straps, as well.
Check out all of the backpacks above and more.
